ABOUT ME

In my opinion we don't value objects enough, in aiding our comfort in the world. Yes we are slaves to consumerism and champion obscene wealth but I'm talking about intimate, less expensive objects that you can hold in your hand. In school I felt that too much emphasis was placed upon the mind, upon intangible thought. We need objects to live, they can make us feel safe. We use objects to survive, we live and work in buildings that have been made by human hands. I believe that an attachment to objects over humans is healthier. Think about how humans are unstable, subject to emotional and mental difficulties due to the inequality in our society. So is it really rational to place all over our attachment and longing upon a flawed, flailing human?. I'm not saying that I hate humans, I love them, listening about their life, understanding what they are passionate about, each human like a Rubik's cube, but I'm just reserving my relentless obsession for inanimate objects. When disadvantaged young people are told not to obsess about objects, about cars, trainers or clothes, it's hypocritical because we congratulate the self made millionaires who fill their homes full of expensive Art. Possessing objects can be self expression. The point is that they don't have to be expensive. If we focused more on craft, people could make their own objects like I do, so we wouldn't have to buy everything. I think that possession of objects only becomes a problem when we don't have control over our consumption. When you make your own objects there is a different kind of greed over possessing more. I think it's healthier, because while creating the objects you are contributing to society too in the exploration of process, whereas when you just buy things other people have made there's little action on your part so  you still feel empty inside. When you make them the process of consumption is slower, not so erratic and there is less waste because they are quality pieces. But we don't value working with the hands as being a sign of intelligence, we value the written word more, so we don't encourage self production. My dad was a welder his whole life, maybe that's where I get it from. These are surrealist stories about the beauty and Science of objects.
